Dr. Jim Roche

I provide a wide range of counselling, therapy and clinical assessment services. These include Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (I hold an Advanced Certificate in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy from the Albert Ellis Institute in New York), behaviour therapy for children and adolescents; educational, psychological and neuro-developmental assessments, diagnostic assessments for autism, assessment services and interventions for children, adolescents and adults with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) as well as child, adolescent, individual, couple and family counselling / therapy. These services are available in our Burnaby, Coquitlam and Vancouver offices. My counselling offices are located close to Burnaby, Port Coqutilam, Port Mood, New Westminster and Vancouver. 

All of the services I provide are evidence based treatments, meaning they are treatments supported by published scientific research and have been demonstrated to be effective.

I hold an Honors BA from Clark University, a Master of Arts (MA) in Marriage, Family and Child Therapy from Goddard College, a Doctor of Philosophy with a specialization in Clinical Psychology (PhD) from The Union of Experimental Colleges and Universities, a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies (CAGS) in Educational Psychology from Norwich University and have completed two years of post doctoral studies in Neuropsychology at The Fielding Graduate School. 

I have two years of post doctoral supervision in APA approved hospital settings. I have served as a Clinical Instructor in the Department of Psychiatry at New York University Medical Centre and was director of an APA approved internship program at Kirby Forensic Psychiatric Centre and Bellevue Hospital in New York City. I also served as the State's expert witness in criminal and civil trials in New York City for five years. My teaching experience ranges from being a certified 4th grade teacher of special education to teaching undergraduate and graduate classes at the State University of New York, New Paltz, Brooklyn College, Mercy College and The Union Graduate School's doctoral program in psychology.

In addition to this training I hold a Doctorate in Law with a focus in Educational/Family Law and Mediation from The City University of New York School of Law, am a member of the BC Roster of Mediators (Civil) and I have worked as the behaviour specialist for several New York, California ("Trainer of Trainers" for behaviour management) and BC school districts and as a provincial consultant on autism, asperger’s and related disorders. 

Currently, in addition to my private practice I consult with the Department of Defence on issues involving military members and their families.
